Update on training, minors and Open Graded

In line with Government Guidelines Junior and Senior T&F training will re-commence on Tuesday 30thMarch, numbers will still be restricted so please contact your Coach well in advance to confirm your attendance, potential new members should email – info@watfordharriers.org.uk to ascertain when they will be able to attend training sessions. We are very pleased to confirm that subject to Coaches availability we will be providing additional training sessions on days and times other than our normal Tuesday & Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings.

Unfortunately, our Minors coaches still feel that maintaining a Covid-secure environment whilst satisfying the very considerable numbers that regularly attend the Sunday Minors sessions will not be achievable, we will therefore not re-commence these sessions until Step 4 of the EA Roadmap has been reached, the first meeting will be on Sunday 27th June.

Given the huge popularity of our Open Graded Meetings we feel it will be impossible to maintain social distancing and remain fully compliant with the regulations required to maintain a Covid-secure environment, we will therefore not be resuming these meetings until after Step 4 of the EA Roadmap has been reached on the 21st June with the first meeting being on Wednesday 30th June, entries will open on 3rd June.

Club activity to cease with immediate effect

There seems to be little doubt that Boris will announce another full lockdown this evening, but regardless as to whether he does or not I do reluctantly agree that we should cease training immediately, I am aware of 3 cases at the track in the lead up to Christmas and the app that I’ve been reporting on for the last 7-8 months is advising of a 90% increase in cases in Watford last week to 2053, I believe the local population is circa 150000 so the infection rate is horrendously high.

The NHS is clearly at bursting point and I believe we all have a personal responsibility to take whatever measures we can to contain the spread as best we can, there is a committee meeting scheduled for next Monday so we can review again then.

Richard Parles, Club President.

New Guidance Announced

As I’m sure everyone is aware from today (5th November) until 2nd December the UK government is requiring everyone to stay at home except for specific purposes and not to mix with people from other households, again except for specific purposes. Our latest guidance reflects these changes and outlines full details of all activities that have been suspended as a result. More details can be found at https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/new-guidance-announced-for-athletics-and-running-following-latest-national-lockdown-restrictions/ and we will continue to update the guidance as we get clarity on some outstanding queries. We will as ever attempt to get clarity on how any lifting of restrictions impacts our guidance in advance of 2nd December when the current lockdown is due to end.
